CANADA IMMIGRATION PROCESS

Canada has one of the world’s most forward thinking immigration programs. There are multiple programs by which one can apply to migrate to Canada. These include:

  • Migration to Canada through Express Entry program
  • Migrate to Canada through the Quebec Selected Workers Program
  • Migrate to Canada through Provincial Nominee Program
  • Migrate to Canada as an Entrepreneur/self-employed person
  • Migration to Canada for family
  • Migrate to Canada as an Investor

The list of programs is dynamic and can change at any point of time. Each of these programs comes with its own set of application criteria and is designed for different types of applicants. Vin Consultancy helps applicants in making the right decision to migrate to Canada by helping them choose the right program and assisting them throughout their migration program. Our experienced counsellors will be with you at every step of the way as you plan and navigate your migration journey.

  1. Express Entry Program:

The Express Entry program is one of the most popular ways to migrate to Canada. It was the first immigration program to use skills and points to assess the eligibility of individuals wishing to migrate.

The visa processing time under this program can extend up to six months or less.

  1. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP):

If you opt for the PNP to apply for your PR visa, these are the steps:

  • You must apply in the province or region where you desire to settle.
  • You could be nominated by the province to apply for a PR visa if your profile meets the eligibility criteria.
  • You can apply for your PR visa after you are nominated by a province.

The criteria for evaluating the PR application differs in each province but the eligibility requirements are like the Express Entry Program.

The PNP is an option you can choose if your points score is not high enough and you still get your provincial nomination. When making your application under the PNP, you can choose a province from where it will be easy to get a nomination based on your profile.

A provincial nomination can help you in two ways to get your PR visa. It can add 600 CRS points to your Express Entry application and makes you eligible to apply for your PR visa directly to IRCC.

  1. Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP):

Quebec has its own Provincial Nominee Program known as the Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP). This immigration program was started with the intention to encourage more immigrants to come and settle in Quebec without having to go through the hassle of a lengthy immigration process.

Through this program skilled workers can apply for the Quebec Selection Certificate or Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ). It is not necessary for applicants to have a valid job offer in order to migrate to Quebec. However, those with a job offer are given higher priority.

Th QSWP is also based on a points-based system like the Express Entry System.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY TO CANADA?

While each program to migrate to Canada has different criteria, there are a few things in common. Canadian immigration officials will typically assess migration applications based on:

  • Educational profile
  • Professional profile
  • Your IELTS score
  • French language skills if migrating to Quebec
  • References & legal documentation
  • Canadian employment documentation

This is not an exhaustive list and subject to change. Talk to a Vin Consultancy counsellor to assess your eligibility and increase your chances of migrating to Canada.

FAQ

The official website of the Government of Canada does not specify any age limit to apply for Canada PR. However, an age ceiling is defined generally. This is because, after a specific age, applicants find it tougher to meet the criteria for 67 points. This is because they will not obtain any points for their age.

The maximum age limit to apply for Canada PR will be 46 years. This is because applicants above this age do not get any points. It must be noted here that Canada PR is based on a system of points.

According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada, you will have to prove to have settlement funds of minimum $10,000 CAD per individual. Additional $ 2,000 CAD will be required for each dependent accompanying the immigrant to Canada. The exception for this is if you have a pre-arranged job offer in Canada.

It must be noted here that the threshold settlement funds required can vary. This is depending upon the location in Canada and is based on the size of the family.

Whereas, the needs of every family are diverse and diverse cost of living can be found in different regions in Canada. The below basic guidelines can be followed to determine the budget of a newcomer to Canada excluding airfares and moving costs:

  • 1 Adult immigrating individually: $ 25,000 CAD
  • 1 Couple moving together: $ 30,000 CAD
  • 1 Couple with 1 kid below 10 years: $ 33,000 CAD
  • 1 Couple with 1 kid above 10 years: $ 35,000 CAD
  • For each extra kid below 10 years: add $ 1,000
  • For each extra kid above 10 years: add $ 2,000

Essentially, the above-explained sum of cash will offer you adequate breathing space to settle in a new nation. This is prior to getting a job and starting to earn an income. It must suffice for basic living expenses for 4 to 6 months depending on how well you budget. Any amount lesser than this will make it really tough.

There are a range of immigration programs if you wish to immigrate to Canada from India. You can apply for PR Visa or Provisional Residency Visa through these programs. The chief among them are:

  • Federal Express Entry System
  • Provincial Nominee Programs
  • Quebec Skilled Workers Program

Majority of the immigration programs of Canada are based on points. The applicants must ensure that they fulfil the eligibility requirements of these programs. They must score adequate points based on diverse factors of their profile. This includes Language Proficiency, Work Experience, Education, and others. Only then they can qualify for a specific immigration program or system.

Immigration to Canada has 6 major streams. These are:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Provincial Nominee Program
  • Quebec Skilled Worker Program
  • Business Immigrant
  • Canada Experience Class
  • Family Sponsorship

Each stream caters to a diverse group of immigrants and has unique eligibility requirements. Here we will consider the requirements for the FSWP:

Skilled work experience

You must possess a minimum of 1 year of work experience that is full time and continuous. This is out of the last 10 years prior to your submission of PR application. Equivalent continuous part-time work will also qualify. This must be in the Skill Type B, A, or 0 in the Canada NOC – National Occupational Classification.

Language ability

You must demonstrate that you possess language proficiency of minimum CLB 7 – Canadian Language Benchmark. The test results must be from an organization that is designated by IRCC for language testing.

Education

You must offer either an overseas educational credential or a Canadian educational credential. An Educational Credential Assessment – ECA Report must be offered from a designated agency. This is to prove that the overseas certificate/degree/diploma is on par with the Canadian credentials.

The minimum points for basic eligibility for FSWP are 67 out of 100. Those who score below 67 will not qualify. It must be noted here that basic eligibility factors score and CRS score (Comprehensive Ranking System) are different.

All the qualified candidates must create a profile in the Express Entry System. ECA and IELTS score is mandatory for this. The profile is then offered ranking out of 1200 for diverse factors. This includes Work Experience, Language Proficiency, Education, Age, etc.

CIC holds regular draws from the Express Entry pool and specifies minimum CRS score for the draw. All the qualified candidates in the pool with scores above the specified CRS minimum score are offered an ITA. They can submit an application for Canada PR Visa. The CRS minimum score has remained at 450 and above so far in 2019.

Yes, application for Canada PR Visa can be submitted by applicants with IELTS 5 bands score. There are several immigration pathways such as Atlantic Pilot Program, PNP or if you have a valid job offer.

To apply for this program, you must submit an Expression of interest and qualify under the type of job mentioned under the Skill types.  Based on your inputs your profile will be given points and you will have to score a minimum of 67 points to find a place in the applicant pool.

Officials from provinces and employers in Canada go to this pool to search for talent that will meet their needs. If you score high points you will get an invitation to apply for a permanent residency (PR). The number of invitations (ITAs) are however based on the Annual Immigration Level of the country.

Once you have a fair idea of the requirements for this program, you will first do an assessment to see if you have the necessary qualifications that meet the eligibility requirements. You will need to:

  • Chalk out a plan of action to score adequate points in your low score areas
  • Assess how best you can score these points to find a place in the applicant pool

Under this program Canadian provinces and territories nominate individuals for Canadian Permanent Residency.  This program was created to help Canadian provinces attract international talent and solve their talent shortage crisis. The provinces are on the lookout for professionals with experience in technology, finance or education, marketing or healthcare.

With this program you have the option to apply to some of the best Canadian provinces which include:

  • Prince Edward Island
  • Ontario
  • Saskatchewan
  • Manitoba
  • Nova Scotia

There are two options when filling an application through the PNP program-valid job offers from Canadian companies or through Express Entry.

You could qualify through the individual In-demand Occupation Lists of some provinces. You will get an invitation from the province if your occupation is on the list. You can then go for a Canada PR Visa application.

Apart from the mandatory documents, applicants for the PNP program must present their educational and professional credentials.

There are two options when filling an application through the PNP program:

  1. Through Express Entry
  2. Non-Express Entry

Express Entry Stream

There are 2 ways to apply:

You can apply for a nomination by contacting the province or territory and apply for a nomination under the Express Entry stream.

If you get a positive response from the province or territory to nominate you, you can create an Express Entry profile or update your profile if it already exists.

The other option is to create an Express Entry profile and indicate the provinces or territories you are interested in. If the province sends a ‘notification of interest’ you can then contact them and then apply through the Express Entry system.

You must meet the eligibility requirements for a successful outcome of your application.

Non- Express Entry Stream

Under this option you can apply to the province or territory for nomination under the non-Express Entry stream.  If you meet the eligibility requirements and qualify through the individual In-demand Occupation Lists of some provinces, you will get a nomination from the province if your occupation is on the list. You can then apply for a Canada PR Visa.

You will now have to submit a paper application for your PR visa. The processing time is usually longer than through the Express Entry system.

Steps in PNP application for PR visa

  1. Apply in the province or region where you desire to settle.
  2. If your profile meets the eligibility criteria, you could be nominated by the province to apply for a PR visa.
  3. Apply for your PR visa after you are nominated by a province.

The criteria for evaluating the PR application varies from province to province.

To apply under the PNP program you must meet the minimum requirements for the province’s non-Express Entry streams or must be nominated under that stream.

If you do not receive a nomination, then you must contact he province directly.

To choose the right immigration program, you must do your research to decide which one is right for you and more importantly which will ensure a greater chance of success in getting your PR visa. You must understand the application process of each program to help you choose the right immigration program.

This is where the help of an immigration consultant will be valuable. The consultant will help you with submitting your application on time so that you do not miss out on the deadlines or closing dates that will be a setback to your application success.

Yes, you can apply online for WES open cases for the ITAs issued as part of the Express Entry draw held on March 23 in which 3,232 candidates were selected.

Yes, the Canada immigration department is conducting Express Entry draws. The last draw was held on 23rd March where 3232 candidates received ITAs. Apart from this the Canadian provinces are holding regular PNP draws. In fact, Manitoba, British Columbia and Saskatchewan held their PNP draws between March 26 to March 30.

There are various immigration programs under which you can migrate to Canada from India. Some popular programs are:

  1. Express Entry Program
  2. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
  3. Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP)

Each immigration program has its own set of criteria. If you are applying under a specific program to immigrate from Canada to India you must meet these requirements. But these programs have general minimum requirements common to all of them:

  • Applicants should be above 18 years of age
  • Applicants should have the minimum educational qualifications equal to higher secondary education in Canada
  • Applicants must score the minimum marks in language proficiency tests such as IELTS or CLB
  • Applicants require a minimum one year of work experience
  • Applicants with a valid job offer are given preference

To immigrate to Canada from India, Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are two popular options. Here are the steps in the Canada immigration process from India:

  • Get your Education credentials assessment (ECA)
  • Complete your language ability tests and get the required IELTS score
  • Create your Express Entry profile and get your profile included in the Express Entry pool
  • Apply in the province or region where you desire to settle if you choose the PNP option
  • Calculate your CRS score
  • Get your Invitation to Apply (ITA)
  • Undergo mandatory medical and criminal background checks

The age limit to apply for immigration to Canada from India is 46 years. If you are above this age, you will not score any points under the age criteria when applying under the Express Entry program. This can lower your CRS score.

However, you can still earn points on other factors like skills, language proficiency, job offer, education etc. These factors can give you the required eligibility score to apply for immigration to Canada from India.

The first step in the process to settle in Canada from India is to create an Express Entry profile. The Express Entry program is one of the most popular ways to migrate to Canada. The visa processing time under this program can extend up to six months or less.

Here are the steps involved in the application process:

Step 1: Create your Express Entry profile

As a first step, you will have to create your online Express Entry profile. The profile should include credentials like age, work experience, education, language skills, etc.

Step 2: Complete your ECA

If you have done your education outside Canada, you should complete an Educational Credentials Assessment or ECA. This is to prove that your educational qualifications are equal to those awarded by the Canadian educational system.

Step 3: Complete your language ability tests

As the next step in the Express Entry program, you should take the required English language proficiency tests. The recommendation is a score of 6 bands in IELTS. Your test score should be less than 2 years old at the time of application.

Step 4: Calculate your CRS score

The profiles in the Express Entry pool are ranked based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. Immigration candidates who submit their profiles to the Express Entry pool are assigned a CRS score out of 1200 points.

Factors such as age, work experience, adaptability, etc. determine your CRS score.

Step 5: Get your Invitation to Apply (ITA)

The Express Entry draw is conducted every two weeks.  The CRS score usually varies with every Express Entry draw. Your profile gets selected from the Express Entry pool, provided you meet the CRS score for the Express Entry draw. After this, you will get an ITA from the Canadian government following which you can start the documentation for your PR visa.

There are genuine reasons why you should hire a Canada visa consultant registered with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) to help with your immigration process to Canada.

You will be aware of only a few immigration programs such as Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Program or the Quebec Skilled Workers Program to migrate to Canada. But there are more than 60 options available and you may not be aware of them and will not know the best option where you meet the eligibility criteria. A Canada visa consultant will suggest the right immigration program for you. Their knowledge and awareness will help you choose a program that is best suited for you.

If you believe you can handle the immigration process on your own, then you are probably not aware of the legal requirements, clauses, and rules. If you undertake the immigration process based on what you have understood, you run the risk of making a mistake. But with the help of a Canada immigration consultant, you will understand the rules and regulations and the steps in the process to submit an error- free application.

You will have to submit the application form and supporting documents at specific dates. A Canada immigration consultant will help you submit your application on time

There are three popular immigration programs under Canada skilled immigration to help skilled workers to migrate to Canada.

Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

Skilled workers in various occupations can submit their profiles to the FSTP and wait for an ITA for PR visa. The government of Canada releases a list of skilled trades that are facing a shortage of labor on a regular basis. Based on this list international workers and those on a temporary work permit can apply in the FSTP.

The list of skilled trades is based on Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC) list.

Federal Skilled Worker Program

If you are working on a temporary work permit with a Canadian employer and the employer has made an offer to you for a permanent job, you might be able to apply under the Federal Skilled Worker Program for your permanent residency. Such an offer is called an arranged job. But you will have to meet the necessary criteria under the Foreign Skilled Worker Program.

Points are awarded based on factors such as education, age, adaptability, language skills and job offer for the applicant.

Canadian Experience Class

Temporary workers in skilled positions can apply under the Canadian Experience Class program using their work experience in Canada. This is a common choice for those temporary workers who are not reaching the points that the federal skilled worker program needs.

Applicants under the CEC must either have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada or have a post-secondary degree in Canada.
