FAQ

Yes. If you have a valid passport and either a valid residence permit for a Schengen country or a valid Schengen visa, you will not be needing a visa for visiting Denmark.

You are not free to apply for the Schengen visa for any country, you must apply in the mission or embassy of the country where you are planning to stay for the longest duration. If it is difficult to determine this, especially if you are taking a cruise or a bus tour, you can apply for the visa for the country which is the first point of entry. This is provided you are spending equal number of days in all the countries.

If you have a valid Schengen visa, it will be valid in Denmark as well. You will be allowed to travel as a tourist for a period up to 90 days within a 180 days period.

There are three categories of Schengen visa

Short stay visa: This visa allows for single or multiple entries and you can stay in the Schengen territory up to 90 days in the validity period of six months.

Long stay visa: This is issued for a period exceeding 90 days and are issued by the countries. The national legislation rules apply here.

Airport transit visa: This is required for people belonging to certain countries.

Applicants that wish to stay in Denmark beyond 90 days in any 6 months period, will have to apply for a work/residence permit.

You can apply for a residence permit through either the Danish Immigration Service or the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI).

As per the EU Visa Code, the processing time cannot be more than 15 calendar days in general, and from 30 to 60 days in exceptional cases.

The Embassy is committed to issuing visas as soon as possible, provided they have complete and satisfactory information about the applicant.

The processing period can be extended to 30 days because of the number of applications received by the Danish embassy/consulate or the uniqueness of your situation.

It can take up to 45 days for exceptional applications to be processed by the embassy/consulate.

While it is advisable to plan ahead and apply well in time, do keep in mind that the earliest that you can apply is 90 days or 3 months prior to the expected day of your departure.

It is recommended that the request be lodged at the earliest possible date and at least 16 calendar days before the planned visit. Please note that applications cannot be submitted more than six months before the date of commencement of the planned tour.
