WHAT IS SAT?
SAT is entirely a paper-based test. The maximum score for the test is 1600. However, the SAT score alone does not guarantee admission. It is only one of the factors that is considered in the admission process of a candidate to the graduate school of their choice.

SAT is simply SAT, and, unlike the general notion, does not expand into anything. Initially the acronym SAT was used to refer to Scholastic Aptitude Test, later for the Scholastic Assessment Test, then SAT I: Reasoning Test, and then SAT Reasoning Test. In 1997, the College Board laid down that “the SAT has become the trademark; it doesn’t stand for anything.”
SAT is administered by the Educational Testing Service, on behalf of the College Board.

SAT is not the same as SAT Subject Tests. There are some basic differences between the two –

SAT comprises the following sections –
Reading Test | Assesses how you process information provided to you in everyday evidence-based scenarios. Previous knowledge pertaining to any particular topic will not be tested. |
Writing & Language Test | Analyses your practical skills on spotting and rectifying problems. |
Math Test | Covers different math related problems for you to solve. It has two sections “With Calculator” and “Without Calculator”. |

If you are a student from India that wishes to take admission in any college or university in the U.S., be very clear as to the requirement of the institution that you are considering.
While certain schools and colleges accept either ACT or SAT, there might be others who are more specific.
There is no limit on the number of times that you can take the SAT. On the other hand, you can take the ACT up to a maximum of 12 times.
Ideally, you should aim at attempting the SAT twice. More than four attempts are just a waste of time and energy.
The College Board gives you the option of selecting – by the Score Choice feature – as to which scores you would like to forward to the colleges. Up to six scores are retained in the database.
At times, there might be colleges that specifically require you to share all your SAT scores. While the odd bad day for SAT might remain hidden under Score Choice, your entire history with SAT is laid bare if the college so insists.
To keep it simple, focus on giving a maximum of two attempts for SAT. Make the two attempts count.
